Jon Miller — To Cooperstown With YA

If those in media up for Hall of Fame consideration were subjected to the same criteria that players are—including up to 15 years on the ballot—there’d be no argument; Jon Miller would have been a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and he would have deserved it. Miller recently received the annual Ford C. Frick award, and his name will be displayed along the likes of Vin Scully, Red Barber, Curt Gowdy and all other past winners inside the Hall of Fame (HOF). (Note: before anyone feels the need to submit a correction, I am astutely aware that no Frick award winner is technically enshrined as a Hall of Famer. That said… …since winning the Frick award carries the same level of prestige for a broadcaster as a plaque in Cooperstown does for a player, the ceremony is presented at the HOF, and its...

Can We Get Some Ballpark Love?

There are two reasons I haven’t said much about this topic: 1) I have a biased opinion on it with very mixed feelings about any proposed new site and 2) there has been very little news to report since MLB Commissioner, Bud Selig, created a committee to help the A’s find a new home more than two years ago. So basically the A’s are stuck in limbo, unable to plan for the future both financially and from a personnel standpoint, until this committee decides their fate. It could be a while longer as we’ve heard nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Again, I want to point out that I am emotionally invested in the outcome of this whole project. I grew up only five minutes from the Oakland Coliseum, now depressingly named O.Co Coliseum. I’ve been going to A’s games my whole life; I can’t even reme...

No Bones About It: Ufc 151 Canceled After Jones Declines Fight With Sonnen

Apparently only one fighter stepped in to accept the fight – none other than Chael Sonnen – but the champion, with advice from trainer Greg Jackson, decided to decline. So with no main event, White was forced to cancel UFC 151. Jones will, and should, take much of the blame for this dark day in MMA. White was noticeably disgusted at Jones and Jackson during the press conference, saying that Jackson is “killing the sport,” which is a notion that alludes not only to this particular instance, but also to his tactical, somewhat reserved, game plans during fights. In reference to Jones, White called it a “selfish, disgusting decision,” which are incredibly harsh words for the guy who is shaping up to be the long-term face of the UFC brand. But part of the blame for this debacle needs t...

Update At 4:50pm Est Thurs. – Rumour – Cowboys On The Verge Of Firing Wade Phillips

UPDATE – 5pm EST – All things point to Jerry Jones replacing Wade Phillips after the game in Houston on Sunday. I have had a few other people come forward to me within NFL circles and they are more than ever of the same belief that Jerry knows how bad he would look if his team didn’t make the playoffs because he waited to pull the plug on Phillips. He is preparing for it as we speak. His belief is a new coach and not just any coach would make the difference in winning what you deem a game that you should win, rather than losing like they did on Sunday against Chicago. The belief is that Phillips is good for another screw up and he already has one too many under his watch. In a tight division you can’t give away games and Jerry seems to finally see that Phillips isn’t the man to lead them t...
