Why The Flames Will/Won’t Make The Playoffs! (Part 2)
Posted on 3 Sep 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
In Part 1 I laid out the framework as to why the Calgary Flames will make the playoffs this year. Today I take the other side of the argument and explain why the Flames won't make the playoffs. So without further adieu... Why The Flames Won't Make The Playoffs As I stated in the previous blog. The Flames missed the post season because they couldn't score goals. The question now is did the...

Why The Flames Will/Won’t Make The Playoffs! (Part 1)
Posted on 1 Sep 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
All summer I have been watching the Flames moves and wondering to myself if the team is improved or not. I seem to be able to make an argument on both sides. So I'll present them to you over the next two blogs. Today I start with why the Flames will make it. Why The Flames Will Make The Playoffs The main reason Calgary missed the post season last year was that they were dead last in the l...

Has The Front Office Changed?
Posted on 24 Aug 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
I read a very interesting blog from the fan960's Rob Kerr. Rob is one of the best connected people in Calgary regarding the Flames, and one of the few people in the hockey world that in when he says something is happening I take it as gospel. In this blog Rob has laid out how the management hierarchy for the Calgary Flames has changed and it really slipped under the radar. Here is a basic ru...

Addressing Savard For Regher
Posted on 17 Aug 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
The rumors just won't go away on this deal. I imagine that is because from a hockey standpoint it makes sense for both teams. Calgary would get the true #1 center they have been looking for for at least a decade. While the Boston Bruins would get one of the best shut down D in the league to load up their back end. Also their cap hits are pretty much identical. I won't speak too much on the B...

You have to be kidding me! This is an embarrassment. I suppose Ronald McDonald will be suiting up for the Flames for the Heritage Classic Feb 20/10 against the Montreal Canadiens at McMahon Stadium. Have a good one! Follow me on twitter! www.twitter.com/shanehoopfer

Interesting Week For The Flames

First off can anyone spare Ian White $5? The Flames and Ian White avoided arbitration minutes before they were to head into seeing the arbitrator, agreeing on a 1 year deal worth $2,999,995. As I had said in a few of my previous blogs I thought Ian White was worth around $3M so it is good to see they got this deal right. The major sticking point was that Ian felt he was worth more than $3M ...

Flames Development Camp Jul 25-Jul 31
Posted on 24 Jul 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
It's that time of year again where the rookies get their first chance to impress the coaching staff for the upcoming season. This camp means a little more to some players as it may be their last chance to try and impress upon the staff. And for others it will be their first taste of pro hockey. Let see who are some key players to watch. Goaltenders Leland Irving - Irving has been in the F...

Wow! Flames Hire The Anti-Sutter.
Posted on 9 Jul 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
For quite a while now the Flames had said they were going to hire an Assistant General Manager to help out Darryl Sutter. Everyone including myself assumed it would be Kelly Kisio who is currently the GM of the Calgary Hitmen.Nope. They went off the board and hired someone who may be the complete opposite of Sutter. Jay Feaster! Jay Feaster was the General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning ...

The Flames Dig Into The Well

As I had mentioned before it was no surprise that the Flames signed Alex Tanguay to a 1 year $1.7M contract. Pretty good contract and cap hit for the Flames for a top 6 forward who showed chemistry with Jarome Iginla in the past. Tanguay also had his best seasons as a member of the Calgary Flames putting up 81 points in 06-07 and 58 points in 07-08. However in that second season the Calgary ...
