Pressing Flyers Questions as Training Camp Nears
Posted on 27 Aug 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
With Flyers training camp only about a month away, there are plenty of questions surrounding the defending Eastern Conference Champions. Here are a few of the "now" questions, I've got plenty of stuff on the back-burner in preparation for the opening of camp. With the ruling being handed down on the Kovalchuk contract, the NHL is now examining other "similar" deals, including Chris Pronge...

Flyers Must Sign Antti Niemi
Posted on 2 Aug 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
I started watching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1995, coming out of the first NHL lockout. Back when lockouts didn't eclipse entire seasons. By the 1996 playoffs, hockey had become my favorite sport. Since that time, the Flyers have made the playoffs 14 out of 15 seasons, including this past season. Over that time the Flyers had 8 different goalies begin the playoffs: Ron Hextall (twice), Garth S...

Gagne Traded to Tampa Bay
Posted on 20 Jul 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
So, I woke up this morning expecting Simon Gagne to not have been traded to Tampa Bay for less than nothing. Actually it's Matt Walker, who isn't very good but some how had three years left on his contract, and a who-cares 4th round draft pick. The next morning, I'm really too tee off again, which isn't unlike anything I said on HF, but it's just more proof that Paul Holmgren has no idea wha...

Addressing Gagne Rumors
Posted on 8 Jul 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
It's not a secret at this time, that the Flyers are trying to move Simon Gagne. I've never been that big of a Simon Gagne fan. Under the right circumstances, I would favor trading Gagne, provided the right situation, the right return, and the right players take his spot. None of which are actually happening. This is absolutely ridiculous. Paul Holmgren's job was easy this summer: find a g...

Meszaros, O’Donnell, Shelley Coming to Philadelphia
Posted on 1 Jul 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
The Flyers are being busy bees on this Canada Day. They've traded a 2nd round pick in 2012 to the Tampa Bay Lighthing for defenseman Andrej Meszaros, signed defenseman Sean O'Donnell, and re-signed Braydon Coburn to go along with the re-signing of Michael Leighton yesterday. The point has been made clear, one thing that failed the Flyers against the Chicago Blackhawks was adressed. They won'...

Posted on 26 Jun 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
The Flyers came into Los Angeles with zero picks in the first and second rounds of the NHL Draft. They left Los Angeles with 6 drafted players, and a potential starting goaltender. While most of Friday was spent dwindling in uneventful speculation, Saturday was not only active for the Flyers but productive as well. First the picks: #89- Michael Chaput- C Team - Lewiston ...

Flyers obtain Nabokov rights from San Jose
Posted on 26 Jun 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
It's no secret the Philadelphia Flyers are in the market for a goaltender. The Flyers uncertain cap situation is one hurdle. Another is the current group of UFA goaltenders hitting the market on July 1st. After the 2010 NHL Draft had concluded in Los Angeles the Flyers future goaltending picture may have perhaps gotten a little clearer. Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com is reporting the Flyers...

Flyers 2010 Draft Preview and Prospect Review
Posted on 24 Jun 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
The Philadelphia Flyers do not have a selection in the first two rounds of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and will not select until the 89th selection of the first round. Their first round pick is occupied by the Anaheim Ducks as part of last year's Chris Pronger trade, and their second round pick is occupied by the Los Angeles Kings as a gift for taking Denis Gauthier's salary on July 1, 2008. If y...

Flyers Acquire Rights to Dan Hamhuis
Posted on 20 Jun 2010 by Joshua Bartle.
Yesterday, Paul Holmgren made a trade to jumpstart the Flyers 2010 Off-season. They're wasting no time trying to get a leg up on the competition. The Flyers traded for the rights to unrestricted free agent Dan Hamhuis from Nashville. In return they sent the restricted free agent rights of Ryan Parent, and also received a conditional 7th round draft pick in 2011. Hamhuis was part of rumors durin...
