Which players from the Capitals will make or break your fantasy team?
Posted on 29 Aug 2010 by Philippe Lemire.
"Ovechkin, moron." Admit it, that's most likely the exact thought that went through your mind as you read the title of this post. Truth be told, yes, nabbing Ovechkin in the first round of your fantasy draft will allow to flat out smack kids in the face. But then what? What about the second round? Supporting player? Goaltender? Enforcer because your league awards points for penalty minutes? ...

A look towards the future: 2010-2011 season preview
Posted on 15 Aug 2010 by Philippe Lemire.
It's that time of year again; fans are pulling their dusty jerseys out of the closet, analyzing last season's stats in order to figure out who they're going to draft in the first round of their fantasy league and trying to nab tickets to their teams season opener. Ah yes, the NHL season is just around the corner my friends. Every fan out there is asking himself the same question; how will my te...

Caps sign both Muscle and Import
Posted on 2 Aug 2010 by Philippe Lemire.
It's a debate that's been going on between mechanics, pubescent teenagers and Need for Speed gamers for decades. Should you go for the torque and brute force of American Muscle or sacrifice the brute image and go for a smaller, faster import model? Well in this case, the Caps figured to hell with all that bullcrap and decided to go with both by signing both Tomas Fleischmann and D.J King recent...

Locked and Loaded’
Posted on 18 Jul 2010 by Philippe Lemire.
I guess since this is my inaugural post on this website, I probably do one of those cliché this-is-who-I-am intro paragraphs that everyone absolutely loves to read with a passion. I was born and raised around the sport of hockey, played it with a passion and still do whenever I have time. Most of the other bloggers on this website would probably consider me a young buck, seeing as I'm only 1...

The road to the Calder Cup goes down the Hershey Highway
Posted on 15 Jun 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
The Hershey Bears won their second straight Calder Cup (it's real hard not to call it the Calder Trophy) and third in five years last night. Their playoff run included half of their 16 wins coming in overtime, Beamoning the previous AHL playoff record of six overtime wins, with an 8-1 record in overtime. I would walk through fire to assure the Capitals went .500 in overtime in the play...

Buying Backstrom
Posted on 17 May 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
It's been a few weeks since I could talk about the Caps and not be near tears, but locking up one of the league's premier pivots for the next decade has cured my case of the Mondays. There exists a school of thought that Backstrom would be ordinary were he not centering Ovechkin, but March 14th against the Blackhawks he was clearly the best player on the ice (more...)

Ovechkin’s hard goodbye
Posted on 28 Apr 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
Why would I be surprised? Every playoff series Washington has been in since 2003 has gone seven. Halak apparently turns into Patrick Roy when he sees 40+ shots and Corey's mom turns into Nostradamus when Vegas likes the Caps. (more...)

The long, sordid history of the Caps and 3-1 leads
Posted on 23 Apr 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
The Washington Capitals have been up 3-1 in playoff series nine times and are a nausea inspiring 6-3 in those series, three of those wins coming in their Stanley Cup Finals run of 1998. Take away 1998, and they're 0-2 at series with home ice up 3-1. (more...)

Relâchez le Kraken
Posted on 20 Apr 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
When Bruce Boudreau got the interim head coaching job with the 6-14-1 Capitals in November 2007, his chances of holding on to the job were predicated on two objectives: developing the young talent and winning as many games as possible. The Caps won 11 of 12 to end the season to make the playoffs by two points and win Boudreau the Jack Adams. He entered the league with no job security an...

Carlson, so good to see you!
Posted on 19 Apr 2010 by Ryan Cleaver.
I imagine outside of the Verizon Center she's quite nice. Inside, the little old lady who sits across the row from me and screams bloody murder at every play that goes against the Capitals is pound for pound the most intense fan I've ever seen. With 38 minutes gone in Saturday night's classic and Montreal having built a 4-1 lead without having committed a single penalty she had seen en...
